We’ve updated the calendar and added some classes. In addition to our own Police Bike School, we are hosting two classes put on by TMPA. Officer Involved Shooting investigation and Advanced Internal Affairs are both scheduled for August. Check the calendar for these and previously scheduled classes.

Critical Incident Response for Supervisors and Managers

This course is designed to prepare the Senior Officer / Field Supervisor / Manager to be an effective leader at a Critical Incident. The course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of the current field tactics, with an emphasis on the use of a 4-step Critical Incident Response Plan that will be taught in class. The student will be exposed to case studies and will participate in tabletop exercises that will allow them to apply Critical Incident Response Plan to a wide variety of real-world law enforcement critical incidents and disaster events.

Sexual Assault and Family Violence Investigator’s Course (SAFVIC)

The Sexual Assault and Family Violence Investigator’s Course – or SAFVIC (TCLEOSE Course 3264) is designed to provide law enforcement officers around the state with the tools they need to effectively investigate and prevent sexual assault and family violence. The SAFVIC is funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office and the National Violence Against Women Office. This program is administered by the Training & Research Institute for Professional Law Enforcement (TRIPLE) with input from a statewide steering committee comprised of representatives from law enforcement, prosecution and victim services.

Officers attending and successfully completing the SAFVIC will receive 24 hours TCLEOSE credit. The course is designed to satisfy the legislatively mandated course of Special Investigative Topics (3232) and successful students will be eligible for a TCLEOSE proficiency certificate for advanced investigation.

Date: February 16-18, 2010 8am-5pm at The Katy ISD Law Enforcement Center.

SAFVIC for Cybercrimes

SAFVIC for Cybercrimes was designed as an introduction to the high-tech tools used to perpetrate family violence, sexual assault, and stalking crimes against adult victims. The digital age is bringing many resources for safety and support to victims of family violence, sexual assault, and stalking. At the same time, however, advancements in technology are posing unique challenges to victim safety. As peace officers it is important to have knowledge of how this technology works, and how it is being used against victims.

Mandated State and Federal Law Update

On Feb. 9^th, 2010 the Katy ISD Police Dept. will be hosting the State and Federal Law Update class as instructed by TMPA. The class is 4 hrs. long and will be conducted twice that day with the times being 8AM – 12 PM and 1PM – 5PM. This class is mandated by TCLEOSE for this training cycle.
